As many of you have figured out by now, I sold my boat to Josh (aka Silver Slayer). And you've been wondering what the next step was going to be. Well.....
THIS IS IT:
2009 DEFIANCE ADMIRAL 250EX. OVER 25 FEET OF BADASS FISHING MACHINE...
I am now part of TEAM DEFIANCE and will be a PROSTAFFER for them. I couldn’t have asked for a better company to be a part of. Bo, Rob, and their crew know exactly what REAL FISHERMAN want and they deliver day in and day out. I’m EXCITED to be on the team and run one of their finely tuned instruments of death.
I bought the new ride 2 weeks ago and had the hard working guys at the Defiance Factory add a few extras to her. I picked her up Friday morning, and took a few minutes to get acquainted. You can’t rush this kind of connection!
More on this later….back to the REPORT!
I took the new ride home and proceeded to load her with all of the tools of the trade needed to get the job done in Puget Sound for the oh-so tasty Mr. Blackmouth.
I called my crew together (GFC(Cindy), Biggar74 (Garth), and Jeff) and set the departure for the first shakedown trip for 6:30AM from Armeni ramp in West Seattle. God gave his blessing for the first trip, as the winds were fair and the sun was shining. We arrived at our destination in short order and deployed the riggers, right at the point. We began our troll with the current going north. There was a lot of bait on the bottom when we first arrived. We worked the north side without any take downs. The tide changed at 9:46AM, and shortly thereafter we began to work the south side of the point in the 100-150ft line. I zigged and zagged the boat, working the throttle up and down. At 11AM, we got our first PNP BM love. The port rigger releases and I have my first hookup with the new ride. A quick couple minutes go by and the first blood is on the boat.
The DETAILS: 100ft depth, 88ft on the rigger, QCOVE JIM’S BREAKAWAY GLOW PEARL FLASHER, and a white lightening coho killer.
After the rest of the report, you will see why I capitalized the glow pearl flasher (above)
The airmar transducer was reading the bait perfectly on the bottom. There wasn’t a lot of bait on the bottom, but where there was bait, there was fish. I was marking bait in a very small area and managed to keep the boat in the same area, passing through the school over and over. We landed four in that hour. One hatchery keeper, two natives, and one shaker.
What a day to be on the water!
By this time, we had switched out the stbd rigger to a JIM’S BREAKAWAY FLASHER IN GREEN GOLD and another coho killer.
The mayhem continued into the afternoon as we continued to get bit. Another hatch. Fish came on the glow pearl port rigger. Garth was slaying them all day on that side of the boat.
GOTTA LOVE A BLOODYDECK!!!
Then another, now Jeff’s turn to get in on the action…you know HOW WE DO!
What a day! We ended up going 8 FOR 8 with 3 hatchery fish, 3 natives, and 2 shakers.
Many thanks to Bo and his team for putting me in a boat that does everything I need it to do. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Shout out to Ken Pinnell and Qcove for producing the flashers that put fish in the boat. It is a really good feeling to see that flasher topside and know that you have that direct connection to the fish. The other aspect that I like in the flashers is the combination of GLOW and UV. Whether you’re fishing the morning bite or middle of the day when the sun is high in the sky, you know you have a flasher that meets BOTH rqmts. You are doing good work, my brother! Keep it up!
You know I can’t get by without doing at least something related to TUNA. Ahh yesssss…..
Yes indeedy…those ARE Fin Nor 6500 and 7500 Offshore spinning reels appropriately filled with the 50# Blue Jerry Brown Solid Core, backed with 80# Jerry Brown. The pic. Above is a pre-packed pic. At the end of the day, before heading back in, we dumped the spools (which were overfilled), and packed the spectra on tight. These babies are ready to DO WORK on the high seas and will be used for slingin’ swimbaits, iron, and other misc. projectiles. Only another 3 and ½ months, boys.
We finished cleaning up, and headed for the barn. Many thanks to my crew. Things go silky smooth when you have a crew that knows the routine and can almost read your mind.
And one more thing:
Their gill plates are scratched up, which means they’re in the gravel, eatin’ sandlance. They also had these firecrackers in them:
TIGHT LINES FELLAS! GITR DONE!
CORNFED OUT!!!
Our pic. limit is 4 on here, so if you want to see the same report, with all 34 images, go here:
Very nice...with the amount of fish I've hauled in my 220ex, I shoulda gone with the 250ex....congrats and have a great season....keep us updated...would sure like to see more posts on this forum.
From the other forums, I saw you sold the old boat. Welcome to Defiance. I've been talking these guys up for years. My little 200 isn't as big as your new one, but it has served me well. I know you can put that new one through the paces. Enjoy it.
My next upgrade will be to a 220 to get me enough fuel room to hunt for tuna. I'll be looking forward to some reports, that new one of yours will do just about everything you want it to.
Great report and pictures! We've got a salmon season this year in CA and, so far, we've located the bait and been successful... gotta love that deep bright orange krill fed flesh!
