    Leaky Bunk Windows

We were out salmon fishing in my 2008 220 EX in some fairly snotty conditions yesterday. As we were heading back to the barn one of my buddies noticed a significant amount of water coming in around the two small windows on either side of the bunk every time water came over the bow. In addition, it's raining here today and I was just doing some cleanup in the pilot house and I noticed that rain water water is seeping in from the edges of those windows. I think the solution is for me to take them out, caulk with the some silicone, and replace. Is that correct?

Also, I am wondering if they are caulked when installed at the factory and, if not, why? If they were caulked, it's hard to imagine that they would be leaking the way they are.

Had the same issue with my portside window back in 07. Noticed a leak when it was raining. I recaulked just the outside of it without removing the whole window out and it was fine after that. Wouldn't hurt to recaulk everything every few years, I will need to recaulk the area between my fishing deck and where my cabin connects to it. I did it a few yrs ago and it held, but it's time again as I don't have cabin drain holes so it gets wet in there bad.

I have a drain in my cabin. It drains into the bilge, but it's a drain nonetheless. Have you talked to the factory about it? They need to make it right as it sounds like somebody goofed when they built your boat.

Thanks for the advice on the windows. I'll give it a try your way first.

You mind taking a picture of it for me? I swore up and down to a factory guy to no avail the first year I owned the boat. I figured it must have been one of the first boats ever off the line and it was an afterthought. I'd drill the the hole myself If I knew where and if it didn't void my lifetime warranty. I caulked it good once before, but I think the the cabin flexes somewhat in rough seas and I may never get a water tight seal. I'm still not complaining though, I love the boat even if it has a few minor annoyances.

BTW....How was the fishing? Are shrimping season opens up next week and I'm weeks away from being on the water.

I'll take a picture this weekend and post it for you.

We caught limits of kings this past weekend to 22 lbs. Heading out again this coming weekend. Halibut in the bays is heating up. Hopefully, tuna will be close enough by the end of June.

I've got a 250EX that leaks around my hatch every time it rains. I guess from what I've read, un-sealed windows or hatches are not that uncommon. My boats only a year old.
