I have the 220 EX. I don't know what your definition of big water is, but I use my boat for ocean salmon, rockfish, halibut, crab, etc. Also, when tuna are within range I have taken it offshore (50-60 mi.) for albies. My previous boat was a Trophy and I can tell you that the Defiance handles swells and wind chop far far better than that boat... it cuts the water and provides a really smooth ride compared to my previous kidney buster. It is a light boat yet handles remarkably well. All that said, there is nothing more important than using good judgement when heading into the ocean... I don't take chances and always wear a life jacket. Good luck with your decision.
